Waterfall at Petit Jean State Park Arkansas provides a wealth of higher education institutions. Among public universities is the University of Arkansas (U of A) in Fayetteville, with additional campuses throughout the state. The U of A provides the state’s only legal, medical, architectural, and engineering education, and offers 188 graduate programs in 24 academic areas. Over 42,000 students attend the University. Arkansas State University, at Jonesboro, serves over 17,000 students at its combined campuses, and is an important educational presence for the people of the Arkansas Delta. Henderson State University is a public liberal arts university located in Arkadelphia with approximately 3,500 students. Southern Arkansas University is a comprehensive regional university offering degrees in business, education, liberal and performing arts, and science and technology. The University of Central Arkansas in Conway enrolls approximately 10,000 students and is renowned for its Honors College. Arkansas Tech University in Russellville offers programs in business, education, liberal and fine arts, physical and life sciences, and systems science.

Arkansas has many private higher educational institutions to choose from. Harding University, at Searcy, is a private Christian institution committed to liberal arts and sciences. The University of the Ozarks is a private Presbyterian-based institution in Clarksville. Hendrix College in Conway is a four-year, private liberal arts college affiliated with the United Methodist Church.

Arkansas boasts many community colleges throughout the state. Among these are the Black River Technical College with campuses in Pocahontas and Paragould; North Arkansas College in Harrison; Ouachita Technical College in Malvern; Rich Mountain Community College in Mena; and Northwest Arkansas Community College in Bentonville, among many others.
